A most resounding political figure, Simon Bolivar was paid tribute in the U.S. this weekend via the new movie about his life in The Liberator. And the film premieres the first ever scoring efforts of none other than the famous conductor Gustavo Dudamel.

We all know Bolivar, the military leader who helped liberate much of Latin America from the Spanish Empire. As the film's trailer denotes, he never conquered, "he liberated."

His achievements and influence extends to this day and is honored throughout Venezuela, where Dudamel grew up, with a statue in every main square. In South America, naturally, he's a profound legend.

Alberto Arvelo, the films director, and Dudamel go way back to their days growing up in Venezuela, according to NPR. They developed an appreciation for Bolivar very early on.
