Grouplove have released their new album Big Mess. The group has found a niche in the festival-ready indie rock that can find a place on radio and the live arena. They do not deviate too much from their wining indie-pop formula on Big Mess, but show some added maturity.

The record predicably starts with the album's biggest single "Welcome To Your Life," an exuberant love song about getting back to together with an old fling, "We're back I business / You're such a s big mess / And I love you / Yeah I love," sing the group in the hook.

The record slows down about a third of the way through on the somber and contemplative "Enlighten Me."

It is the band's favorite record on the album and it is easy to see why. It is airy, ethereal and draws the listener in to the rest of the record.

The album may start out cheery, but is ends with some heavier rock selections like "Traumatized," which sounds more fitting for a grungy basement gig than a large theater.

Despite all of the cheery melodies, there is a certain darkness that pervades the album. The singles sing the familiar story of broken love that listeners can connect with.

It feels like the album has a bit of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde feel to it with the indie-pop beginning and harder finish.

The songwriting is top notch and that is what you can expect when someone like Ryan Rabin is the drummer. Rabin also works on the side as one of the members of songwriting and producing trio Captain Cuts.

The American indie band formed in 2009 and made waves with their 2011 single "Tongue Tied," from their debut album Never Trust a Happy Song. Big Mess is the group's third album in total and they are plotting a tour across North America this fall. Get details on the tour here.
