Just when you thought there weren't going to be any more great festival lineups this year, somebody comes out of the blue and surprises you. Day For Night Arts Festival in Houston has done just that with its 2016 lineup. Entering its second year, the festival will be headlined by Bjork, Odesza, Run The Jewels, Travi$ Scott, Kaskade and most importantly Aphex Twin, who will perform for the first time in the United States in eight years.
The lineup includes a dizzying array of acts from various genres. Fans will be able to hop around the grounds and hear rock, electronic, hip-hop, r&b and more all within the comfines of Day For Night festival.
More names on the lineup include, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Squarepusher, John Carpenter, S U R V I V E, DJ Windows 98 (a.k.a. Arcade Fire's Win Butler), Blood Orange, Blonde Redhead, Liars, Oneohtrix Point Never, RZA + Stone Mecca Rider, Little Dragon, Thundercat, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Washed Out, Arca, Clams Casino, Nick Murphy (f.k.a. Chet Faker), Kamasi Washington, Tobacco, Lightning Bolt, Lower Dens, Matmos, Chelsea Wolfe, Nothing, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, and Mykki Blanco.
The festival will feature "live digital sets" from Bjork, which should bring some very innovative and different sorts of visual and sonic displays from the Icelandic artist.
The real coup was getting Aphex Twin to do a live set at the festival. It is his first since Coachella in 2008. He released his album Syro in 2014 and has not toured since.
"For years and years, people in the industry told us, 'No way, not going to happen, don't waste your time'," festival producer Omar Afra says to Consequence of Sound about the booking. "I think that artists like Aphex Twin want to do things that are a cut above, a little different, and that's what we aim to do. We had great cooperation from his team and we were just persistent and it worked."
In addition to the music, there will be ambitious light and visual installations featuring various artists.
Day For Light will be held at the Barbara Jordan Post Office in Houston on Dec. 17 & 18.
A hologram of Harambe will be present at the festival because why not.
