J. Cole was a more than capable sub-in for The Weeknd on Saturday night (Oct. 1) at Meadows Festival 2016. He performed a set list similar to other festival gigs he has done over the summer such as Lollapalooza and Made In America and had the crowd rapping along to each of his tracks. At the end of his set he made the surprise announcement that this would be his last show "for a very long time."

Near the end of his performance, he made the announcements for the gathered faithful on the main stage.

"Before I get out of here, listen," he said. "This is my last show for a very long time." He didn't say exactly what he would be doing, but one can presume he is going to work on some new music. Earlier in the night he noted that he couldn't turn down this gig because Queens is like a second home since he came up to go St. Johns and start his music career.

J. Cole has been touring on the back of his 2014 album 2014 Forest Hills Drive, which has gone double platinum with no features. He will have to put in some work to top the effort on this one.

J. Cole headlined the proceedings on Saturday night alongside other names such as Grimes, ZHU, Pretty Lights, Chromeo and Damiam Marley. The second day featured the likes of Kanye West, Kygo, Bryson Tiller, The 1975, Chance the Rapper and Mac Miller.

Watch him make the announcement below.
