LL Cool J had a good run as Grammys host, but he has to give up the reigns of the show. It has been announced that CBS's Late Late Show with James Corden host James Corden will host the 2017 Grammys.
"I am truly honored to be hosting the GRAMMYs next year," said Corden in a statement. "It's the biggest, most prestigious award show in music and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such an incredible night."
LL Cool J was the face of the Grammys telecast for five years, but the Grammys wanted to give the show to a new face. Corden has become an increasingly influential figure in popular music media with his Carpool Karaoke segment.
Recording Academy president Neil Portnow echoed this sentiment.
"Thanks to 'Carpool Karaoke,' we've all been on some incredible rides with James, and The Recording Academy couldn't be more excited to welcome his passion and enthusiasm for music, both as an entertainer and a fan, to the GRAMMY stage on Feb. 12," said Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow in a statement. "He's got big shoes to fill after the magnificent run we had with LL Cool J, but James is a commanding, dynamic showman who is perfect to host the GRAMMY Awards."
With Corden as host, you can probably expect loads of jokes similar to what he does on his show, some karaoke, and skits with various stars that will be in attendance or performing.
The 59th Grammys will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and air on Feb. 12, 2017 at 8 p.m. on CBS. The nominations will be announced on Dec. 6 on CBS This Morning at 8:30 a.m. EST, with the complete list being unveiled online at 8:45.
