Rapper and decent eats enthusiast Action Bronson has joined the cast of Martin Scorcese's hugely anticipated upcoming project The Irishman.

The unconventional casting marks the latest in a string of news items on the movie, beginning with photos of the big-name cast in period-appropriate garb on set in and around New York.

Bronson will join the high caliber likes of Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and De Niro's Goodfellas costar Joe Pesci in the Netflix movie. It is based on the Charles Brandt novel I Heard You Paint Houses.

The biographical crime story focuses on the shocking murder of Jimmy Hoffa and the possible involvement of real-life hitman Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran, who is one of the most notorious assassins in history. The book's title is slang, meaning, "you'll kill a man."

Pacino is set to play Hoffa, with De Niro playing Sheeran in their first film together since 2008's Righteous Kill (though most fans will think of this as a Godfather reunion of sorts). Steve Zaillian (Schindler's List, TV's The Night Of) wrote the screenplay for the movie, which is being co-produced by Scorcese and De Niro.

Bronson's role in the movie isn't yet known. Although his casting may seem like an odd choice to some, the New York-based rapper is no stranger to the screen.

He's the host of Viceland's food show F*ck, That's Delicious, as well as appearing in late night talk show spoof Untitled Action Bronson Show, and Traveling The Stars.

This will be his first time playing someone besides himself, however, outside of doing some voice work for a Lucas Brothers cartoon. He is also slated to appear in Netflix comedy Game Over, Man! alongside the guys from super popular series Workaholics a bit later this year.

Bronson shared an exciting photo on his Instagram account with De Niro and Scorcese captioned "Religious Art."

Bronson is based in Queens and signed to Vice Records, an imprint of Atlantic Records. His latest album Blue Chips 7000 peaked at #25 on Billboard's Top Rap Charts in 2017. The release of the third and final installment in his Blue Chips series also kicked off the first part of his Blue Chips 7000 US tour last year.

The rapper and foodie recently landed at #9 on the New York Times Best Sellers list with his cookbook F**k That's Delicious: An Annotated Guide To Eating Well.

The Irishman will hit Netflix sometime later this year, but there's no solid release date for the flick as of yet.
