Foo Fighters just shared a clip of the rock band performing a mashup of John Lennon's "Imagine" and Van Halen's "Jump."
The Grammy Award-winning group is currently preparing for an upcoming tour across the United States and Europe, beginning in Texas in April. On Twitter, the band gave a 2-minute-31-second-long peek into the band's rehearsal.
"Woodshedding for the summer tour has never felt so good ... See you out there ... (I'll learn the words by then, I swear)," wrote vocalist Dave Grohl. "Thanks to Mighty Mike for the inspirado. (Oh, and Halen and Lennon, too)."
In the performance embedded in the tweet below, Grohl sings the lyrics to "Jump" while the rest of the band perform the music from "Imagine."
Foo Fighters With Rick Astley
This is not the first time that the band, founded in 1994, tried its hand at creating mashups of recognizable songs. During a live performance at the Summer Sonic Festival in 2017, Foo Fighters joined Rick Astley for a mashup of "Never Gonna Give You Up" and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit."
It saw Astley singing his 1987 hit to the melody of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as performed by the Foo Fighters. At the time, Grohl revealed that the group did not even had the chance to rehearse with Astley (whom they met two minutes before they went onstage to collaborate), but the result (also embedded below) was pretty incredible.
In an interview with Absolute Radio, the singer-songwriter explained how the collaboration happened.
"We have a special relationship with Rick Astley because we've 'rick-rolled' some people before," Grohl joked. "I mean, that's just one of the songs you can't get out of your head. It is a classic hit pop song. That day in Tokyo, we were playing this festival, we saw that he was on the bill, and we meant to learn 'Never Gonna Give You Up' as a cover song for something else we were recording. We have a warm-up room backstage, and we were practicing it. Never met him before, and then we go on to play the show, and halfway through the show, I see him on the side of the stage, and I'm like, 'Oh, my god, he's watching us. This is amazing.'"
He said that halfway through their set, he went up to Astley, introduced himself, and invited the '80s icon to sing the song.
Foo Fighters' Summer Tour
The rock band is currently touring in South America but will kick off a series of concerts in the United States on April 18 in Austin, Texas. The band will then stop and perform in several cities across the country including Tampa, Atlanta, Nashville, Philadelphia, and New York.
The band will also be heading to Europe to perform in Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
