The premiere date for Foo Fighters' HBO documentary Sonic Highways is a little over a month away, and a new, extended trailer has now been released for the program. In a new two-minute "conversation with Foo Fighters," the "Everlong" band explains the concept for its new show and how each of the eight cities they visited reflected on Sonic Highways the album.

"Mostly, we wanted to pick cities that meant something to us," said guitarist Pat Smear, citing the reason that Foo Fighters chose Chicago, Austin, Los Angeles, Nashville, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington DC and New York over other places to record Sonic Highways.

Grohl noted that his history with Nirvana and the first Foo Fighters album influenced his choices of Seattle and Chicago and that his hometown Washington D.C. was an obvious choice thanks to its punk scene in the 1980s.

"Basically, we come to a city and we start recording an instrumental because I interview all of these different musicians from that city," Grohl explains, noting that he spoke to the likes of Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Chuck D, Bonnie Raitt, Guns N Roses and more during the making of Sonic Highways.

The end of each episode will the result in a song premiere, allowing fans to note the influence of each city and sound in the new Foo Fighters music.
