There may be no better place in the world for aspiring music industry professionals to learn about cutting-edge music technology and innovative business sense then at a school that bears the namesakes of Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young, aka Dr. Dre.

The pair who founded Beats Electronics and turned the headphone market upside down now have their own learning center at the University of Southern California called The USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation, Pigeons and Planes reports. The academy was a result of a $70 million donation to USC, the two innovators announced last year.

Each year, the program will accept 25 to 30 students who will dabble in computer science, audio production and other creative classes. The three areas available for study include art and design, engineering and computer science and business and venture management, according to the academy's website.

One student in the program's inaugural class wrote to HYPETRAK to highlight how the first half of the semester has gone.

"We see Jimmy and Dre, as we affectionately like to call them, from time to time," Arjun Mehta wrote. "In late August, we went on a 'field trip' to Jimmy's home for a backyard BBQ where we met with him, Dr. Dre, will.i.am and others. Two weeks ago, Jimmy visited our on-campus workspace and checked out some of the class projects we've been working on."

The academy's approach is three-pronged with a core curriculum, curricular emphasis and the garage experience, a collaborative workspace that resembles some of Silicon Valley's tech start-up facilities.
