Taylor Swift's recent single "Welcome to New York" has met with a lot of snark and criticism from New Yorkers, including us here at Music Times, but the song's success may actually be beneficial to New York City. During her appearance today, Oct. 29, on The View, Swift revealed that the proceeds she is making off the song are going to be donated to the New York City public school system.

"I love it here, I love it so much," Swift said of New York City, which she recently moved to. "I don't think I told anybody this before, but the fans were wonderful enough to make it No. 1 on iTunes. It's selling really, really well — which is good, because I'm donating all of my proceeds to New York City public schools."

This is not the first time that Swift has given away her own money in New York City. After meeting a fan in Central Park in August, Swift gave her $90 to buy dinner after learning it was her birthday.

"I'm still learning, but I'm so enthusiastic about this city that I feel like when I love something, I'm very vocal about it," Swift told Good Morning America, after she had been named New York's Global Welcome Ambassador. "I just go around going like, 'Everybody, New York is amazing.' So I think they just picked up on that and they gave me, like, a title."
