Parents and high school seniors across the nation typically take to U.S. News for their university rankings but The Hollywood Reporter has come up with a solid list of its own, ranking the Top 25 music schools in the world for aspiring performers.
The first thing to know is that if you want to get the best in music education, you're probably coming to the United States. Of the 25 schools listed, only four were outside of the U.S. The top placing foreign academy was London's Royal College of Music, which placed no. 10. That city's Guildhall School of Music also placed, as did the Conservatoire de Paris and the Seoul Institute for the Arts.
A large number of the schools were located on the East coast, in New England in particular. The no. 1 overall was The Juilliard School in New York, which was praised for its affiliation with many accomplished alumni, as well as its frighteningly low acceptance rate of just 6.7 percent. The Berklee College of Music in Boston took no. 2 thanks to the more than 300 Grammys won by its alumni. The list heads out west for no. 3, the University of Southern California, which recently opened its new Iovine and Young Academy (regretfully not named the Iovine and Dre Academy).
