Metallica stopped by The Colbert Report last night in support of their upcoming 3D film, Metallica: Through The Never.

Before they hit the stage, Stephen Colbert sat them down to talk about the new movie. He joked around with the band, asking, "What is Through The Never? What about, Next to the Always? Or, Under the Sometimes?"

According to drummer Lars Ulrich, the movie translates to "Through the Impossible" in Russian.

Colbert moved on, asking, "Are you actually angry when you rock? Do you have to be angry to rock as hard as you do?"

"It helps," Ulrich said. "Especially when you are younger."

"Can you keep your anger up, James?" Colbert joked referring to guitarist James Hetfield's aging. "Do you need 'Anger Viagra'? Do you have to fake your anger-gasm?

Hetfield replied, "Well we are 50 on the outside, and still working on growing up on the inside. So it's still here."

They showed a clip from their upcoming film, in which men on horses appear to be pillaging a city during the apocalypse. The clip quickly shifts to Metallica playing a concert. "I love how easy of a transition it is between post-apocalyptic mayhem and the front row of your concert," Colbert noted.

They started off their set with "For Whom The Bell Tolls" and ended with an online-exclusive, "Master of Puppets."

The band members, who are all close to 50 years old, played as hard a show as ever. Robert Trujillo moved around the stage in a crouching-stance, and the other members head-banged and made badass rocker faces - a few grey hairs and a bit of balding hasn't changed a thing.

Metallica: Through the Never will be released in IMAX theaters across the country on Sept. 27.
