Lorde's highly anticipated soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 was released earlier this week to much excitement. With the film premiering in the U.S. tomorrow, Nov. 21, the New Zealand songstress can take some time to look back on the whole process, like she did in a recent interview with The FADER. Although the album features a slew of big names, Lorde did not get every artist she wanted ... like Nicki Minaj.

"When I first approached the project, I thought I would chose 15 artists and they'd be the 15 artists I was with three months later," she said. "But obviously, it evolved like crazy."

According to Lorde, whatever Minaj was going to do for the album was going to be "amazing," but the "Anaconda" singer was too busy with her next album, The Pink Print, to contribute. But the "Royals" singer was nothing but supportive.

"... I'm happy we're going to get a new Nicki Minaj album to listen to at the gym for six months," she added.

Lorde also talked about what it was like being on the A&R side of things for the soundtrack.

"Basically, I didn't realize how hard working with other artists was," she said. "I only have to deal with myself and I know how bad I am at meeting time goals. It was basically me being like, 'Hey! Sorry to bother you again!' Like super-obnoxious A&R kid. If anyone would try to do that to me, it'd be like, 'Ungh.' It'd be the biggest eye-roll that someone was trying to choreograph my creative process."

The singer found it funny trying to enforce deadlines and keeping up with the logistics of the project, but there weren't any major problems to report because, as Lorde said, the other artists could tell how passionate she was about the album.

The first single from the soundtrack was Lorde's "Yellow Flicker Beat."
