Earlier this week, Bette Midler called out the "sex sells" mentality of young singers working in the industry today in an interview with The Telegraph, using Ariana Grande as an example.

"It's always surprising to see someone like Ariana Grande with that silly high voice, a very wholesome voice, slithering around on a couch looking so ridiculous," she said. "I mean it's silly beyond belief and I don't know who is telling her to do it."

She went on to suggest that Grande's people might be giving her instructions on how to act. "I wish they'd stop. But it's not my business, I'm not her mother. Or her manager," she said.

Grande responded to Midler's remarks on Twitter, posting a photo of the veteran performer scantily clad with the caption, "Bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever the F they wanted without judgement! Not sure where that Bette went but I want that sexy mermaid back!!! always a fan no matter what my love."

She clarified that she had no bad feelings toward Midler saying, "and I will still quote first wives club every single day of my life lmao."

Midler has now semi-apologized for her words against the "Love Me Harder" singer.

"About my screed on @ArianaGrande, all I can say is, 'Spoken like a reformed old whore! She does have a beautiful voice, on a couch or off,'" she wrote in her mea cupla.

Looks like the short-lived beef is all cleared up.

Midler's most recent album It's the Girls! was released on Nov. 4, and is her 14th studio album, her first since her 2006 Christmas album Cool Yule. The album pays tribute to classic girl groups and features covers of songs by The Ronettes, The Supremes, and TLC.

Meanwhile, Grande just released her Christmas song "Santa Tell Me."
