In advance of their seventh album, What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, The Decemberists have shared another new track. "The Wrong Year" is the third single from the upcoming album, due out Jan. 20, following "Make You Better" and "Lake Song."

Colin Meloy penned a tune for all those heartbroken romantics who know all too well about loving someone who does not feel the same way.

"And she wants you / But you won't do / And it won't leave you alone / And the rain falls / On the wrong year / And it won't leave you alone," he sings over John Moen's syncopation.

What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World is the follow-up to 2011's The King Is Dead. The band announced the new album via a press release last month.

"Having a family, having kids, having this career, getting older — all of these things have made me look more inward," Meloy said.

The frontman said the song "12/17/12" was inspired by the Newtown school shootings and President Barack Obama's subsequent national address.

"I was hit by a sense of helplessness, but also the message of 'Hold your family close,'" he added.

The King Is Dead hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

"What's remarkable is how much richness and beauty the group has folded into the 40-minute album: The melodies are sticky, the harmonies sumptuous, the arrangements (centering on guitars, fiddle, accordion, harmonica and pedal steel) unfussy," Rolling Stone wrote, giving the album four out of five stars.

The band will hit the road in February, touring Europe and the U.K. until March, when they make their way back to the states. Check out the full schedule here.
