The spirit of the Disney music generation took a hit earlier this year when Miley Cyrus engaged in all sorts of obscene behavior leading up to her recent release Bangerz, but the scene may have taken a bigger hit Tuesday when The Jonas Brothers confirmed that the band was breaking up.

Kevin Jonas, the eldest of the trio, told People magazine that "it's over for now."

It can't be said that the announcement was a total surprise however. The band was scheduled to go on a tour beginning during early October, but the plug was pulled on October 11 before the group's first show in Upper Darby, PA. Even the Jonas Brothers' representative couldn't put a positive spin on the decision, confirming that "a deep rift within the band" had caused the cancellation. The group's Twitter account was also taken down at the time.

Nick Jonas, the youngest brother, was "feeling kind of trapped," according to People. Rumors that Joe Jonas was struggling with substance abuse appear at this point to be untrue. Nick and Joe both have side music projects outside of the Brothers.

One bit that hasn't been covered yet in the uproar surrounding the announcement is what it means for the band's forthcoming album, V. No official release date has been given for the group's fifth release, but all indications suggested that it would drop during Fall 2013. There have already been two singles released off of the album, "Pom Poms" and "First Time," and the group has also performed other tracks believed to be on the record during other live performances. Music Times will be sure to release an update when an official statement is made.
