The final season of Courtney Cox's Cougar Town premiered on TBS last night and featured a snippet of a new song from Ed Sheeran. Prior to the premiere, Sheeran had tweeted to his U.S. fans that "a brand new never before heard song of mine" would debut on the show. Cox also promoted the new track in a tweet of her own saying, "So excited for you all to hear the new song from my pal @edsheeran tonight."

The as-yet-untitled acoustic guitar-driven song has a chilled out vibe that's a return to his roots.

"And we will drive until these tires wear out," he sings. "And we will write all our memories down/ And we will cry until this fire is drowned/ Well, darling, I/ I will keep you warm/ Well, darling, I/ I will take you home."

For those wondering what the folk-pop star's connection to Cox is, apparently the two are unlikely friends. According to one of his old Instagram posts, the actress let him live at her beach house last year. That's not their only connection, however. Sheeran was the one who introduced her to her fiancé Johnny McDaid of Snow Patrol, his former roommate.

It's unclear whether the new track was cut from his x sessions or from his debut +. Hopefully a full version will surface soon.

Sheeran's first No. 1 album, x, is nominated for Album of the Year (against Beck, Beyoncé, Sam Smith, and Pharrell Williams) and Best Pop Vocal Album (against Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, and Sam Smith) at the 2015 Grammy Awards. His song "I See Fire," from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, is up for Best Song Written For Visual Media. The singer is scheduled to perform at the ceremony on Feb. 8.
