English indie rock band The xx have issued a statement on Facebook explaining its disapproval of Croatian political organization U ime obitelji using the song "Intro" in an advertisement that speaks against same-sex marriage. The band did not agree for the organization to use the song, and now they are making it clear that the members are not affiliated.

The xx members say they believe in equal rights and being attached to such an ad does not represent them at all.

The statement of Facebook reads:

"It has come to our attention that our music has been used without our permission in a promotional advert by the Croatian organisation "U ime obitelji". We wish to state that we didn't, and would never, approve the use of our music by this organisation. To be clear, we unconditionally support the equal right to marriage regardless of sexuality. xx The xx"

The statement was posted earlier today, and there are already 20,355 likes and 397 comments. Many people voiced their love and appreciation that the band decided to stand up for what they believe in and not let this kind of thing continue without an explanation.

Many comments were made out of sheer anger that the political organization would do such a thing without permission and people insisted that the band press charges. Some did go back forth a bit on the issue, just in terms of whether or legal action is the right approach or if it's just a knee-jerk reaction. Regardless the band clearly has a strong following and their fans stand by their vocal response to the issue.
