Christmastime is here once again! As millions of Americans take to their laptops and cars en route to the mall, one thing is inevitable: holiday music. Thus, Billboard has once again reinstated their annual Holiday 100, the ultimate list of the year's biggest Christmas songs.
Not surprisingly, the vast majority of the chart is led by old holiday favorites. As with last year's chart Mariah Carey's 1994 pop classic "All I Want For Christmas Is You" tops things off at No. 1. According to Billboard, "All I Want For Christmas Is You" sold 29,000 downloads last week, was streamed 833,000 times and had 42.2 million audience impressions on radio. No small feat for a 19-year-old song.
The rest of the top 10 also consists of familiar fare. 1950s/'60s classics such as Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree," Bobby Helms' "Jingle Bell Rock" and Burl Ives' "A Holly Jolly Christmas" all lock in the top 10. In fact, all the top songs have been on the chart consistently since it was founded.
So, what is this week's highest ranking newcomer on the Holiday Songs chart? Ariana Grande's "Love Is Everything." The Christmas Kisses track, which was released last Tuesday (Nov. 26), hit the chart at No. 15, nestled between Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas" and Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas."
Other new songs on the chart include: Pentatonix's version of "Little Drummer Boy" (No. 23), Grande's cover of Wham!'s "Last Christmas" (No. 32), "Do You Want To Build A Snowman?" from Frozen (No. 33), Kelly Clarkson's "Underneath The Tree" (No. 34) and The Drifters' "White Christmas."
