St. Vincent is currently touring in Australia, and was not able to watch the Grammy Awards telecast Sunday night, Feb. 8. With her self-titled LP up for Best Alternative Album, the 32-year-old Tulsa, Oklahoma, native kept waking up during the night to check for updates, and news that she had won the award finally coming from her mom in a group text.

"I knew they were going to announce [the category] in the pre-televised thing, so I went to bed ... and kept waking up every hour," St. Vincent -- her birth name is Annie Clark -- told The Dallas Morning News. "My family had a text thread going because they were watching the live stream. ... Eventually I woke up with a text from my mom that said, 'Annie won!'"

We assume the trophy will be mailed to her in Australia, at which point she has some interesting plans for it.

"I think I'm putting the Grammy on a gold chain and I'm just gonna wear it around, hoping I can upgrade my airplane seat because of it," St. Vincent told SPIN. "If I can squirrel my way into first class."

When she gets home, the hardware has another fate.

"It's going to live in the trophy case by me and my sister's old soccer trophies," she told The Morning News.

2015 marked St. Vincent's first Grammy nomination and -- obviously -- victory. Despite her critically acclaimed body of work, she is rarely up for any kind of awards, but she has another chance at glory this year. The Brit Awards list her as a nominee for Best International Female Solo Artist, which is a step up from Best Alternative Album.

St. Vincent will learn her fate Feb. 25, at which point she will be somewhere between Japan and Canada on her tour. Perhaps the group text will come in handy again.
