As Brian Williams's credibility continues to crash and burn at NBC News, the network desperately needs someone to step up and reassure viewers that it is credible, and right now the best man for the job is Lester Holt. His on-air presence is calm yet rock solid. He has filled in for nearly everyone in his 15 years at the network, including Williams, and his way of delivering the news reeks of credibility and certainty. Holt is certainly the man who can keep NBC Nightly News afloat while the network decides what to do with Williams and what seems to be quickly turning into a repeated problem with "misremembering" particular events. Holt is being prepped to take over for Williams permanently.

Ironically enough, Williams actually expected to keep sitting behind that anchor desk until he was informed that he would be wise to willingly take a leave of absence. According to a report by Radar Online, just 48 hours ago NBC's veteran anchor still thought his job was fine.

"After anchoring Nightly News on Friday night, Brian didn't think he was going to be taken off the air. NBC decided to let him issue a statement saying he was taking himself off the air, but another problem quickly arose when Brian insisted on including the claim that he would be back in a few days. Brian has been around for a very long time and wanted to do anything he could to box NBC into letting him resume his spot at the anchor desk as quickly as possible. His worst nightmare is coming true, as the staff is embracing and rallying around his temporary replacement, Lester Holt. Lester is so well-liked and trusted by everyone on the Nightly News staff and is a true team player. He could be a replacement," explained the source.

Some insiders say that while Holt is not officially testing for the Nightly News gig beginning tonight, if he does well and the ratings spike, it will not hurt him, either.

Do you think Williams will be back at the helm of NBC Nightly News, or has he actually already done his last broadcast for NBC and we just do not know it yet? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
