New York singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten has quite a long history of bringing her fans to tears -- but that's usually due to the power of her heartbreaking tunes. On Thursday, a New Zealand newsman named John Campbell of Campbell Live was made misty-eyed by Van Etten, but for a different reason. The longtime fan was surprised on the set of his show by an impromptu performance by Sharon, catching him completely off guard.

Previously, Campbell was saddened when he was unable to attend Van Etten's show in Auckland due to previous commitments he made to emcee a function on the same night. So what did Campbell's team organize? They brought Sharon Van Etten onto the show to perform specially for him. It was overwhelming to Campbell and brought him to tears, a quite moving moment.

Van Etten performed "Tarifa" off of her critically-acclaimed album, Are We There.

"It's pathetic really, I'm 51 years old, but music sometimes just keeps you afloat, doesn't it?" said a choked up Campbell. Yes, yes it sure does.

Van Etten is currently touring New Zealand before heading to Europe. She will play Boston Calling festival in late May and Governor's Ball in New York City in the first week of June and she contributed a song to the soundtrack of the Anne Hathaway film, Song One, earlier this year.

Are We There earned Van Etten a larger response than any of her previous albums. Though she just released an album in 2014, that hasn't stopped her from providing her fans with new tunes. In January, she dropped a new single, "I Don't Want to Let You Down," and performed the song on Ellen. Watch Sharon's performance from that show below.
