A posthumous CD compilation crafted by the godfather of house music, Frankie Knuckles, is being released by Defected Records with all proceeds of the sales going to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Frankie Knuckles Fund. The House Masters compilation was originally started in February 2014, shortly before the Chicago DJ died. The project, which includes handpicked singles and remixes from Knuckles's career, was sidelined when the "Whistle Song" DJ died March 31, 2014.
"This is a great mixture of Frankie's work," said Sir Elton John in a statement via Resident Advisor. "It shows his spirit and love of artists. His artistry will always be at the forefront of dance music and so will his energy."
Defected's Simon Dunmore added: "In the beginning there was Frankie Knuckles. His legend transcends the movement that he helped create. His many incredible production influences still bring house, soul and disco to dance floors all over the world. I consider myself truly honoured, not only to have played and danced to his music but also to have worked with Frankie at Cooltempo, A&M:PM and Defected."
The compilation features some of his most seminal works like "Your Love," "The Whistle Song" and "Tears," as well as remixes for Pet Shops Boys, Hercules & Love Affair and others. The compilation will be released April 26 through Defected Records. See the full tracklist below.
