The indie world was crushed in August when The Civil Wars disbanded. The news came a few years after the duo of John Paul White and Joy Williams went on hiatus, making the breakup official and killing hopes of a new album. It may not be The Civil Wars, but Williams has announced a new solo effort titled Venus that will drop this summer. She shared the lead single, "Woman (Oh Mama)," as well.

The new tune is a female empowerment anthem that celebrates the fairer sex. "Woman make, woman take / Woman see, woman breathe / Woman carries the burden in the night / Woman's always the one to be blame," Williams sings over a tribal-like melody. Check out the tune below.

Venus actually marks the singer's fourth solo album. It will follow three full-length Christian releases and seven EP titles that Williams made between 2001 and 2010, Rolling Stone Country notes. She talked about her new single with the publication, adding that she's comfortable with where she is nowadays.

"The entire song is what it's like to experience the beauty, the spark and strength of what it is to be inside your skin," she said. "It's a song with energy and fire. I wanted to own the complexity and the three dimensional aspect of what it is to be a woman. 'I am a universe wrapped in skin'... That's one of my favorite lines from the new album. I'm excited about being a woman. I'm excited to be where I am now, who I am now."

Williams and White weren't on speaking terms when they went on hiatus in 2012. No specific reason has been given as to why the two split, but there seemed to be a lack of compromise between the artists.

"If John Paul and I can find a place to meet in the middle, I believe that there could be a future for the band," Williams said in 2012. "I would be open to having a dialogue; I would be open to trying to mend the bridges that I think we both burned.... It takes two."

Williams will play New York's Gramercy Theatre May 14 and L.A.'s El Rey Theatre May 19.
