By now you've no doubt heard the phrase, "Bye, Felicia." If you didn't know its origins, the phrase comes from the movie Friday, starring Ice Cube, which came out 20 years ago this month. Last night, Cube stopped by Conan to talk about the film's anniversary and the phrase that has now swept the nation.

In the film, Cube plays an unemployed stoner named Craig Jones alongside Chris Tucker, who plays the character Smokey. They both end up having to find a way to pay a drug dealer $200 within 24 hours. A scene occurs in the film where the character Felicia attempts to borrow a car and a joint from Smokey and Jones, leading Jones to say, "Bye, Felicia."

The phrase hit the Internet in 2007 when a clip of the scene was uploaded to YouTube. The phrase was then given a definition on Urban Dictionary in 2008, and at the beginning of 2014, it became popular in in a post on a subreddit and grew from there.

"Friday, you know, it's like one of those little movies that...we did it and we was like, 'Yo, the cool people are going to like this movie and everybody else, they aren't going to understand it.' But it's like, there's so many cool people in the world because everybody loved the movie," Cube told Conan. "I mean 'Bye, Felicia,' right now, that is the phrase to get anybody out [of] your face that's saying something stupid. 'Bye Felicia', and you know it's got this craze. This movie has got into people's hearts. That's why we're having this screening so everybody come out. I know you guys know the movie. Come yell at the screen."

A special director's cut of the movie will be screened in select theaters on Monday, April 20 (a.k.a. 4/20). Meanwhile Cube's N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton is due out August 14.
