Aspiring DJs, this may be the chance you were looking for to get a big break. The Australian DJ competition series Your Shot has teamed up with Tiësto and 7UP to bring the idea stateside. The competition will pit 30 aspiring DJs against each other in the hopes of winning the grand prize—the shot to perform alongside Tiësto in Las Vegas at his Hakkasan club residency and on 7UP Stage 7 at next year's Ultra Music Festival.
The 6-week competition will be filmed and shot in a 10-video series, shown on Vevo. The DJs will get professional instruction from Tiësto himself at the Your Shot Training Academy in Los Angeles and compete in various rounds of competition in the Los Angeles showcase event. A panel of judges that includes their mentor will judge them. The top six finalists will go to Las Vegas to compete in a week of rigorous DJ challenges and hands on training from Tiësto and other notable DJs. One DJ will then emerge victorious and claim the grand prize.
"It takes the idea of the DJ competition and turns it on its head," says Tiësto in a statement. "This contest really provides aspiring DJs with an opportunity to realize their dreams. Many times people don't know how or where to get started with DJ'ing, but the great thing about Your Shot is that, win or lose, they get a platform to learn, grow and achieve great things as long as they are focused and dedicated."
The competition comes as Simon Cowell has attempted to do the same thing with an X Factor-styled show with DJing that was lambasted by DJs and fans alike. It has slowly moved through the process of production, getting green-lit by Yahoo in January, but no one like Tiësto has given their stamp of approval for it.
