Tim McGraw proved he was a double threat upon debuting his acting chops in the film version of Friday Night Lights where he played an alcoholic father. Since then, Hollywood has sought out the country singer for a variety of roles; however, McGraw is picky with the projects he chooses. With his next film, Disney's Tomorrowland, hitting theaters soon, McGraw has revealed that also he'll be gracing the silver screen and executive producing in a new drama series called Robbers, which will appear on TNT, Rolling Stone reports.

The series is based on Christopher Cook's 2000 debut novel of the same name, which follows a pair of drifters, Eddie and Ray Bob, as they embark on a violent crime spree roadtrip across Texas. A woman named Della is the only one who can stop their evil plan once Eddie falls for her and tries to clean up his act. Howver, McGraw's character, Ray Bob, acts as the devil on his shoulder -- and we already know McGraw can play a villain thanks to his portrayal on 2004's Friday Night Lights.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, McGraw said that he will only partake in projects that "move" him.

"As an artist, you've got to have a visceral reaction," he said. "If you have to think about it, it's probably not the right thing."

A premiere date has yet to be set for Robbers, but McGraw has signed on for the entire series.

According to Deadline, the country singer's co-executive producers are Michael Dinner, Carl Beverley and Sarah Timberman. Dinner and novel author Cook are the show's screenwriters with Dinner also directing the project.

Deadline also notes that the style of Cook's Robbers is said to be "evocative of Elmore Leonard, a fitting comparison as the new project reunites key auspices behind the FX drama Justified, based on a Leonard short story."
