Trace Adkins and his dad Aaron

Aaron Adkins, father of country singer Trace Adkins, died on Saturday, February 1, 2014 in Bossier City, Louisiana at the age of 71. The funeral will be on Wednesday, February 5 with a private interment to follow.

The country singer had been in a Florida rehabilitation center for what his representative called a "setback in his battle with alcoholism," when he got word that his father was seriously ill, according to the New York Daily News. He left the center to be at his dad's side.

Though Trace, nor his mom Peggy, have not made any public statements, his wife, Rhonda, posted a thank you to fans on her twitter. She said, "Thank you for all of your love, prayers and support. Sometimes we don't know where our journey will take us but I know he has a plan."

Aaron Adkins was a hard working man who spent 47 years with the International Paper Container Division. A lifelong resident of the Sarepta, LA area, he leaves behind his wife of 53 years, two sons (Trace and Clay), a sister, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a nephew. His son Scott preceded him in death in 1993.

Memorials may be made to the Town of Sarepta, LA, Beautification Fund.

The entire MusicTimes family sends our condolences to the Adkins family.
