Kanye West has settled the 2013 lawsuit stemming from a sample used in his Grammy-nominated Yeezus track "Bound 2." The lawsuit was filed by Ricky Spicer, former soul singer of The Ponderosa Twins Plus One, which alleged that Kanye had used its song "Bound" with its authorization. According to paperwork viewed by Billboard (dated March 6) that was filed to New York court on May 11, the suit has been discontinued.

In his suit, Spicer named Roc-A-Fella, Island Def-Jam, Universal Music Group and Rhino Entertainment as West's codefendants asking to be either compensated for using his voice or to cease and desist. According to the suit, the Ponderosa Twins Plus One singer had no idea his voice was used in the Yeezus track. He had originally recorded "Bound" when he was 12.

Spicer's voice can be found altered in the chorus, singing the very important lyrics "bound, bound / bound to fall in love."

Settlement terms have not been disclosed at this time, but now Kanye can look forward in 2015 without this lawsuit lingering behind him.

Kanye is known for sampling other people's music in his songs. He generally goes for older soul and funk records, but they can vary...everyone from Daft Punk to Michael Bolton.

However this has led West into some trouble, not just in this case but also in others. Kanye was sued by the children of David Pryor for allegedly illegally sampling a portion of Pryor's song "Bumpin' Bus Stop" for his 2005 hit "Gold Digger." The suit was settled in 2014 after West's team originally sought for the judge to throw it out because they felt the sample was too small to be considered an infringement according to Radar Online.
