Forever to be admired alongside music legends like Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Kid Rock and Kings of Leon, Loretta Lynn and Jack White are the newest inductees into Nashville's Music City Walk of Fame.
In the afternoon of June 4, the two musicians received plaques of their very own to reside on the one-mile stretch of recognition. Rocker Jack White spoke at the induction ceremony, thanking the city of Nashville as a whole for their unwavering encouragement and acceptance of his label headquarters, Third Man Records, since 2009.
"Nashville has been so incredibly open and supportive of what I and everyone at Third Man Records have tried to create since day one, and I will never forget it," White said. "Art can thrive in oppressive conditions and also in supportive ones. I thank the community of Nashville for being the supportive kind and giving back to us." In the clip above, he praised friend and fellow artist, Loretta Lynn, for being a feminist pioneer within country music.
Following the induction, White took to his personal website to convey his feelings further in a blog post. "This is really a big honor and it speaks volumes about Nashville... that you would accept for example, what we've done with Third Man Records here in this city and accept it so well, nurture it and help us make something come alive. We're so honored to be here every day, and we know that there's only one town in the world where we could have done this, and that's Nashville, Tennessee."
The former White Stripes singer continued, "This is a very difficult time for music in the last decade, and I urge everybody here to do everything they can to support local artists and buy their records and keep music sacred."
Third Man Records will open up shop on Black Friday in the Lazaretto singer's hometown of Detroit, notes NME. In collaboration with high-end goods manufacturer Shinola, the Third Man outlet will share space with the retailer in the Cass Corridor building.
