Kevin Gates, Louisiana's most exciting rapper, dropped off a new single "Tomorrow." After "Kno One," a romantic, pop-friendly turn "Tomorrow" brings Gates back to his roots -- employing croaky, depressed singing on the hooks and furious, pedal to the metal street raps everywhere in between.

"Please don't talk inside the car / This depression get the best of me / I'm in my thoughts, I don't want talkin' 'til tomorrow," Gates ruminates, before taking us right into those violent, gut-wrenching thoughts.

He previewed the song Sunday (Aug. 2) on his Instagram, and it looks like a music video is on the way.

Gates continues to successfully play the slow grind. The 2014 XXL Freshman still hasn't released an album though last year he released two album-quality mixtapes. In May, he released Murder For Hire, a 7-track free EP, and last month, he put out Kevin Gates: The Movie, which includes the music videos to three of his biggest hits from 2014's Luca Brasi 2 ("Perfect Imperfection," "Plug Daughter" and "John Gotti") all worked into the same narrative arc.

He's also stayed independent. As he continues to climb into the mainstream eye, he's doing so under his own brand, Breadwinner's Association, and without sacrificing unique style or the localized Baton Rouge dialect and storylines that made him so appealing in the first place.

Gates is currently wrapping up the second leg of his #IDGT Tour. After that, fans can hopefully look forward to his debut album. "Kno One" and "Tomorrow" would certainly be worthy singles.
