Sweet. Bass guitar virtuoso Jaco Pastorius will be the focus of Stephen Kijak's new documentary.

The film will be the official selection of this year's Record Store Day, and Omnivore Records--on a separate note--will release a collection of found sessions by the bassist from 1976.

Modern American Music...Period!: The Criteria Sessions contains 11 tracks recorded at Criteria Studios in Miami during a series of jam sessions. Jaco--who completed the Weather Report outfit, performed with Joni Mitchell and went on to become one of the most celebrated bass guitarists in the world--revolutionized the way the instrument was played.

Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo will help finance Jaco, producing alongside the Pastorius estate.

Omnivore, also, will issue the album on CD and multi-colored LP (with a download card, of course) on April 19.
