It's been three years since Macklemore and Ryan Lewis broke out on the scene with "Thrift Shop" and just days after opening up about his struggles with marijuana and pills after he blew up to massive fame, the Grammy-winning rapper is back with new music. Today (Aug. 5), Macklemore and Ryan Lewis teamed up with Ed Sheeran for "Growing Up (Sloane's Song)," a track dedicated to Macklemore's infant daughter.

Sheeran initially teased that he had an unexpected collaboration dropping today at 5 p.m. GST on Twitter,  though it arrived a little early. The new single features Macklemore getting heavily real and introspective as he raps to his baby girl, Sloane Ava Simone Haggerty, and hopes that he can be the type of father that he always dreamed of being.

"They say girls shouldn't be tough and moms should raise their kids at home / But baby I know that isn't true 'cause your mama's the toughest person I know / I want to raise you to be like her and teach the world how to do it on your own / I'm still trying to figure out who I am, I don't want to mess this up or do it wrong," he raps in the first verse, over a piano and subdued drumbeat crafted by Lewis.

For the hook, the hip-hop duo enlisted Sheeran, who blasts in to the track in the chorus, including a touching line about wrapping your fingers around your thumb.

"Growing Up" is Mackemore at his best, as he's deeply personal both about his own shortcomings as a man. He turns the song in to a universal theme for new parents and young adults, as he contemplates growing up despite being a man in age.

The song was released for free on Soundcloud.

It's unknown whether or not "Growing Up (Sloane's Song)" will be the lead single from Macklemore's new album, though in the song he talks about dropping a new album and embarking on a massive tour before his baby girl takes his first steps, so fans should expect more from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis soon.
