The Grammy Award nominated country music producer Dave Brainard was attacked in downtown Nashville Sunday and is awaiting reconstructive face surgery following the incident.

Brainard is one of Nashville's youngest and most promising producers, known for his work on Brandy Clark's 12 Stories as well as his work with Jamey Johnson and Jerrod Niemann.

The altercation left Brainard unconscious in the street with a broken jaw, severe lacerations to his face and several missing teeth, after a man struck Brainard and friend Deborah DeLoach with a his car proceeding to get out and punch and choke both of them, according to The Tennessean.

Nashville Police are looking for a man and woman driving a gray or charcoal four-door Infinity who fled the scene in well-dressed formal attire as if they had just been at a fancy event.

"We couldn't get out of the street because they kept hitting us," DeLoach told The Tennessean, referring to the couple in the car. "They both get out and start yelling - she starts yelling, he's yelling. The woman attacked me, and the man attacked Dave."

Brainard goes into surgery Tuesday she said, with a jaw broken on both sides, lacerations to his chin and lip and shattered back teeth. He's going to be OK DeLoach insisted, but right now Brainard is severely injured.

Clark's debut album, that Brainard worked on, 12 Stories was up for Country Album of the Year at the 2015 Grammy Awards, as well as a nomination for Best New Artist, for her fresh take on the genre. Before working with Brainard, she's been around for a while as a song writer, with music recorded by Sheryl Crow, Miranda Lambert, The Band Perry, Kacey Musgraves and many more.

Brainard was instrumental in bringing those talents to the forefront on her debut album and launching a promising solo career as well as his own as a celebrated Nashville producer at just 40 years old.
