Donald Glover (a.k.a., Childish Gambino) is coming back to television screens in 2016, and this time he is doing it by incorporating his love of hip-hop. On Thursday (Oct. 15), FX announced that it has picked up the Community alumnus' new show Atlanta for a 10-episode first season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Glover will write and star in the new half-hour sitcom. He will play Earnest "Earn" Marks, a "loner" who moves to Atlanta and soon finds himself entangled in the city's booming rap scene.

In addition to Glover, Brian Tyree Henry, Lakeith Lee Stanfield and Zazie Beetz are also slated to star in the new show, which has yet to receive an official start date beyond next year.

"Atlanta draws on Donald's considerable talents as a musician, actor and writer to give us something unique," Nick Grad of FX said. "The story is made all the more powerful by the great cast and the contributions of Donald's fellow executive producer Paul Simms and director Hiro Murai. We can't wait to for the debut of Atlanta next year."

Atlanta's season pickup is the end of a lengthy road for Glover's new sitcom. The show was first ordered to pilot in December 2014 and has been in development ever since.

This new show is just the latest acting endeavor for Glover. In addition to starring on Community for five years as jock turned college student Troy Barnes, Glover has also acted in Magic Mike: XXL, The Martian and in a few episodes of Girls.
