As members of The Rolling Stones have previously hinted, the band will head back into the studio this December to start recording new songs, according to guitarist Ronnie Wood in a new interview.

If a new LP is cut, it will serve as a follow-up to 2005's A Bigger Bang and will essentially be the band's first new studio material in a decade. During a recent interview with ABC News Radio, while promoting his new book How Can It Be?: A Rock & Roll Diary, the guitarist openly confirmed the approaching start date.

"We'll maybe go in the studio in December and cut a few tracks and see what happens," he said. "We'll take it from there, see how it all goes. One thing at a time." It was reported that he also confirmed that they would be laying "some groundwork" for a new album.

The news of the band entering the studio first broke earlier this year when Keith Richards mentioned that the band would start recording in April 2016. "These guys aren't getting any younger, but at the same time, they're getting better," he said. "I'd love to shove them in the studio in April, hot off the road."

He more recently, however, stated that the band may start recording the new album before Christmas this year. Frontman Mick Jagger also recently commented on the prospect of new songs being recorded. "It would be very nice and I've got a lot of new songs and songs I've written over the last couple of years," he stated. "I've done really good demos for all of them, which I would love to record. So, let's hope so."

The band will start rehearsing for their upcoming tour, the America Latina Olé Tour 2016, in January. Wood's book How Can It Be?: A Rock & Roll Diary, which is a retelling of his 1965 journal he kept while on tour with U.K. band The Birds, is currently available, featuring his own recent commentary and personal illustrations.
