While performing in Columbia on Wednesday (Nov. 25) during the Latin American leg of their latest tour, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder laid down a solo cover of U2's classic track "A Sort of Homecoming" for the enthusiastic audience.

Performing covers is no new territory for Pearl Jam. The band had performed covers of Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" and Pink Floyd's "Mother," declaring that they were "losing their virginity with Columbia" that night. Now, thanks to fan footage, you can witness Vedder performing his rendition of the song, which appears on U2's 1984 album The Unforgettable Fire, as a segue into Pearl Jam's own "MFC" which appears on their 1998 record Yield.

According to the band's official website, they had previously covered the song nine years ago in Sydney, Australia on November 8, 2006. Although they've been known to repeat cover songs on their tours, the band hadn't performed this particular one since.

The band's Latin American tour came with many surprises, including a rendition of their song "Porch" performed with a fan in Rio de Janiero who claimed that it had been his birthday at the time. "It's My Birthday Can I please sing a song with you?" the fan's sign read, according to Alternative Nation. Vedder replied "It is your birthday? Now let's see I saw you three days ago holding the same sign and a few days before that with the same sign. It must be nice to have every day be your birthday."

Interestingly enough, this may have been the band's last fall tour abroad if Vedder's beloved Chicago Cubs are to enter the Major League Baseball playoffs again. As they were rehearsing for South America, the baseball team were in the midst of battling the New York Mets for the NLCS title, which they subsequently lost. Vedder had expressed his frustration with not being able to be there for the games.
