Even after 20+ years in the game and a divisive public image, Courtney Love can still wail with the best of them. Yesterday (April 22), the Hole frontwoman released her best song in years and makes it for damn sure that “You Know My Name.”

Clocking in at a punchy 2:44, Love kicks off “You Know My Name” right from the start with some hella fast power chords and a punky charge of “Hey, you know my name.” The sludgy, dark guitars sit under the surface of this pure rock track, as the drums do their steady, time-keeping thing.

Though the verses have all the attitude for this track, the choruses are were all those catchy hooks kick in, and it’s really unlike anything else from Love’s discography. There’s something insanely accessible about this chorus, dare I say it’s almost Foo Fighters-esque?

Over the instrumentals of “You Know My Name,” Love’s voice is as snarly and growly as ever. Twenty years in the game haven’t really scarred her vocals. Yeah, it’s gritty, but Love has always been that way and it totally works for the balls-to-the-wall music that she’s best known for.

Basically, Love is back in full force.

“You Know My Name” is part of a double A-side single Love is planning to release on May 4. The other track will be “Wedding Day.”
