Chelsea FC, the defending champions of the Barclays Premier League, sit in 16th place in this season's standings, and hope to close out 2015 by getting away from the threat of relegation. So who is to blame for such a poor performance from a top team in the English's top league? According to plenty of rumors, manager Jose Mourinho could be sacked any day now, but the Portugal native is pointing the blame at his roster of players after the most recent loss to Leicester City. Is the manager just trying to blame anyone else for his hopes of the team making it to the top 4 being "gone," or did his stars "betray" him?

According to the Daily Mail, executives of the Chelsea organization held a 9-hour meeting to discuss the future of Mourinho and the team. Considering the former top squad is sitting so low in the standings and has lost 9 games this season, it's clear that something needs to change. But after this week's loss to top team Leicester, Mourinho made sure the world knew that he blames others.

"One of my best qualities is to read the game for my players and I feel like my work was betrayed," the manager said, according to BBC.com. "One possibility is that I did an amazing job last season and brought the players to a level that is not their level and now they can't maintain it."

He added: "I accept we are in the relegation zone, but I don't accept we are in a relegation battle. You look at the table and we are there, but you think you are in a relegation battle if you think you are there for three or four months. I don't think that. We can't finish top four, but we can still finish top six because so many teams are dropping points. At the moment, we are in a zone where I feel ashamed."
