After Stacy Dash's controversial comments regarding the perceived racial bias practiced by networks like BET, and their perceived hypocrisy when compared generally white institutions, rapper Kevin Banks has come to the actress and political pundit's defense.

"I agree with her," Gates said. "Because it's only two types of people. Real people and fake people. It's no such thing as color in my realm. It's no such thing. Cause I know some people of other ethnicities that's solid...I thought that God said you supposed to love all people...Everybody came a long way. Go overseas. They don't have welfare overseas. If you poor, you poor. So, I don't be trying to hear all that 'everybody came a long way' talk...I had my ass kicked by the police. Beat the f*ck up. It was the way I was conducting myself."

The situation started after the list of Oscar nominees was revealed, with a disheartening lack of African-Americans up for awards. Ms. Dash, who has become known more for political and social commentary in recent years than her performances, took issue with the backlash over the lack of black nominees. She pointed to institutions like BET and occasions such as "Black History Month" to illustrate the alleged hypocrisy exemplified by the outraged.

"We have to make up our minds," she said. "Either we want to have segregation or integration. And if we don't want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the (NAACP) Image Awards where you're only awarded if you're black. If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It's a double standard."

Dash made these statements on the Fox News program "Fox and Friends," in a conversation about the alleged Oscar snubs.
