Rising above is a common theme in Dawn Richard's (D∆WN) music, but it takes on new meaning in her latest single "Not Above That." The Danity Kane/Diddy-Dirty Money alumna can found right where we last left her, on the dancefloor, this time cooing to her lover over an infectious Machinedrum beat co-written by herself and Maya Vik. It is the second official single to be lifted off her third LP RED*emp*tion, following the Ester Dean penned "Dance."
D∆WN plays the perfect lover on the song, willing to go to great lengths to get what she wants. "If I beg for it, will you get me off", she sings over the bass-heavy production. All the typical D∆WN amenities are present from ethereal harmonies to heavy reverb and her signature runs. The verses build up into the hook's subtle drop where her voice can be heard ping-ponging between colorful synths.
The records falls in line with the running theme for RED*emp*tion, which finds D∆WN embracing a happier more vibrant sound following last year's moodier Blackheart.
In addition to the new single, she also announced tour plans for the coming months. According to Rolling Stone, this will include a stop at SXSW and North Carolina's Moogfest.

D∆WN can also be seen alongside Zendaya, Kat Graham and more in the latest issue of Kode Magazine. Christened the #GenerationNoir issue, the women where brought together to celebrate progressive women of color in the entertainment world. D∆WN took to Instagram to announce her participation in the issue as the "New Face of EDM."
