French producer and DJ Thibaut Berland, better known by his stage name Breakbot, has released his new album Still Waters. Known for his quintessentially French brand of nu-disco and electro, Breakbot has been a staple of the Ed Banger Records stable since he was signed in 2009 and shows again why on this LP.
There is only one listed feature on Still Waters - Yasmin, who makes an appearance on "Arrested" and "My Toy."
The vocals on the album come from Irfane who has joined Breakbot on a permanent basis after being a featured act on most of Breakbot's songs.
The album draws upon the influences that have been present in his music throughout his career - 1970s disco, funk, French touch and even some r&b. The album is filled with the excess and joyous funk that one expects from the grooves and melodies of the 1970s and 1980s, but there are more soulful moments like on "2Good4Me," where Berland slows things down for a more heartfelt record.
This is Breakbot's first album since 2012's By Your Side. He has released a few singles and remixes in that time and toured both as a DJ and with his live band, but the Frenchman has been pretty quiet on the release front putting together Still Waters.
