Ty Dolla $ign and HWLS have unveiled their new collaboration "Plays" as part Adidas Songs From Scratch series. The series pairs somewhat unlikely collaborations and follows them from start to finish as they create a song that is then given out through Adidas.

The video chronicles the two artists, Ty Dolla $ign and HWLS, which is the side project of Ta-Ku with fellow Australian producer Kit Pop and how they eventually connected and created this song. In 2014, Ty Dolla $ign expressed his admiration for Ta-Ku's music and as Ta-Ku says, "slid into his DMs." They eventually linked up and started working on a song that would become "Plays."

The viewer is taken into the studio where you see HWLS working on the hazy, synth heavy beat and Ty Dolla $ign at first sits looking at a picture book working out the melody with his words. You see him come up with the hook of "making plays" while still looking down at the book.

Even though he is a big pop star right now, there is still a very organic, DIY feel to how this collaboration came together. It started through mutual respect and reach out on the internet. Then they came together in a small studio and just feeling out the beat, they write this song and that flows effortlessly from start to finish.

"What I'm used to is just making music in the back of my grandmother's house," Ty explains in a video about the session. "That's how it started... I'm way quicker if I'm just in my own element."
