In the wake of the judge’s decision to deny Kesha freedom from her agreement with Sony Music, female artists such as Lady Gaga and Lorde have come out in support of Kesha.

The music world was shocked at the verdict in the Kesha and Dr. Luke sexual assault and contracts case, where the pop singer filed for an injunction which would allow her to work with another label and producer.

This past Friday (Feb. 19) both the singer and her alleged abuser Dr. Luke were present in a New York City courtroom, where the request was denied. New York Supreme Court judge Shirley Kornreich denied her request, citing that Dr. Luke had made an investment in the pop singer and that, in addition to her contracts, negate her requests for release.

“You’re asking the court to decimate a contract that was heavily negotiated and typical for the industry,” Judge Kornreich said according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kornreich said that the court was going to honor the contract and do the “commercially reasonable thing.” She also cited a lack of physical evidence in Kesha’s sexual assault claims.

There is now an entire #FreeKesha movement, with members of the music industry and fans behind her.

The #FreeKesha movement has been a Twitter trend ever since the decision to not release Kesha from her contracts was made. Not just Lady Gaga and Lorde came out to support the singer, but other female artists who came out for Kesha included Ariana Grande, Grimes, Iggy Azalea, Kelly Clarkson and Halsey according to NME. Halsey even did a tribute for Kesha during a performance at Glasgow last night (Feb. 19).
