During a special, intimate comedy performance in Melbourne, Australia for a select group of fans, music icon Madonna dressed up as a clown and sang "Tears of a Clown." Apparently, some haters that witnessed the performance think that the "Material Girl" songstress was either drunk or high to take part in such a performance. As a response, Madonna has released an official statement that calls out these critics as sexists and misogynists that don't understand acting.

"Thanks for supporting me. Too bad people don't know the art of acting and playing a character. I could never do any of my shows high or drunk," the singer's response on Instagram read, according to NME, and rightfully so! Madonna is a performer before anything else, and fully commits to her craft.

Considering the current social climate in Hollywood, the music industry, and basically just the professional world, Madonna also addressed the ongoing issues of sexism and misogyny.

"And yes underlying all of this is sexism and misogyny which proves that not only do we not get equal pay but we are still treated like heretics if we step out of line and think outside the box! Sexism is alive and kicking but I am," Madonna explained.

While this judgment might seem like it's coming from out of nowhere, she isn't wrong. She's clearly angry that someone thought she was inebriated during a special performance that clearly meant a lot to her, which is bringing her down for her craft. If a male performer is drunk or high, is the reaction the same? I don't know. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
