Jack White is a huge champion of the vinyl industry, so the rocker will be pleased to know that his new album Lazaretto has set a new record. White's second solo effort easily landed the No. 1 spot this week on the Billboard 200, and along the way he also sold the most vinyl copies of an album in the history of Nielsen SoundScan.

Lazaretto landed the No. 1 spot on the U.S. Album Chart this week by selling 138,000 copies, according to Billboard. Speaking to his key demographic and passion for the art of the vinyl record, an astounding 40,000 copies of Lazaretto were sold in record form.

That easily beats the record set by Pearl Jam in 1994, when that band moved 34,000 copies of its album Vitalogy. (Note: SoundScan started tracking vinyl sales in 1991, long after it was the main way of consuming music at home.)

Other fun fact: the vinyl sales alone would've landed Lazaretto at the No. 4 spot on the Billboard 200, sitting pretty between the soundtrack to Disney's Frozen (No. 3, 50,000 copies sold) and Brantley Gilbert's Just As I Am (No. 4, 40,000 copies sold).

White's massive sales for Lazaretto come not just from his own passion for vinyl, which likely trickles down to his fans, but also from the odd bonuses and tricks that come with the deluxe edition of the set. Released by his own label Third Man Records, the deluxe edition of Lazaretto can be played backwards, with different song intros, features a song underneath the center sticker and much, much more.

Lazaretto is the second solo album from singer/guitarist Jack White and follows the release of his 2012 album Blunderbuss, which similarly debuted at No. 1 with 138,000 copies sold.
