Bob Dylan may have scribed "Like a Rolling Stone" nearly half a century ago, but the track obviously still hits home for many of his followers, because the lyrics to the iconic 1965 fan-favorite were sold earlier this afternoon for an astounding $2 million at a Sotheby's auction.

The bidder – who obviously has quite a bit of disposable income to spend – set a world record in purchasing the lyrics, which were written on four sheets of hotel stationary and expected to sell between $1 million and $2 million. And while the buyer's name has not yet been revealed, Rolling Stone reports he is a "longtime fan from California."

The auction house describes the documents as "the only known surviving draft of the final lyrics for this transformative rock anthem."

Well, if it isn't epic enough to own actual lyrics written by the famed folk singer, the stationary is reported to have additional lyrics that didn't quite make the final cut as well as some random thoughts and doodles from Dylan.

Like we said, pretty epic.

Also sold at the Sotheby's auction were two handwritten pages of lyrics for "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall." Those lyrics, unlike the former tune, are in their completed form and sold nowhere near "Like a Rolling Stone." Regardless, the fact that anyone wants to buy a sheet of lyrics in 2014 is pretty remarkable in itself.

"Like a Rolling Stone" has been one of Dylan's most revered songs over the years, and evidently, it remains so. Check out the legendary tune below:
