Few realize that Grimes, for all of her peculiarity, is signed to entertainment management company Roc Nation, which hosts more mainstream performers such as Jay Z, J. Cole and Rihanna. That outlet allows the alt pop act to dabble in songwriting for her management labelmates and perhaps scrape some royalties off of it. You can't please everyone however, and now Grimes has released "Go," a track she originally wrote for Rihanna with DJ/Producer Michael "Blood Diamonds" Diamond, which marks her first new music in two years.

It's not tough to imagine the lyrics coming from the lips of the Barbados chanteuse, but the backing instrumentals don't scream "pop smash." They do scream however, as Grimes' squeals are one of many elements floating around the synths and drum machines. Blood Diamonds makes his presence known in the EDM build-n-breaks that occur following the hook.

Attendees at the performer's Governors Ball set two weeks ago got a special preview of the track. Grimes apparently dropped the track for download on her site (or you can just listen below) because she got bored with waiting for her next album release to happen.

"It's our summer jam so we figured we should put it out 'cuz I am very bored of waiting to finish my album b4 releasing new music haha," she wrote.

That's about as much as we know about the new album, a follow-up to 2012's critically adored Visions. Grimes has reportedly been working in the studio, but she also mentioned earlier during 2014 that she had rerecorded all of the tracks on Visions as well. So who knows. As attendees of her notorious Ibiza Boiler Room DJ set found out, you never know what you're going to get out of Grimes.
