Justin Vernon has revived Bon Iver for the first time in three years... all it took for a new song was a Zach Braff film. Today (June 30), Bon Iver released "Heavenly Father," a harrowing new track from the upcoming indie film Wish I Was Here.

Pulling from Braff and Josh Gad's relationship with their father in Wish I Was Here, "Heavenly Father" explores family dynamics and love, all set to an atmospheric chorus of horns and overdubbed vocals.

Listen to the soon-to-be indie classic over here at NPR.

The mellow track is a welcome return to form not just for Bon Iver but also for a Braff-curated soundtrack. The former Scrubs star set the indie rock world afire in 2004 with the release of the Garden State soundtrack, which included songs from Coldplay, The Shins, Simon & Garfunkel and more, many of whom returned to Wish I Was Here.

The soundtrack for Garden State went on to win a Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack for a Motion Picture.
