Dave Lombardo, formerly of Slayer, will be joining reunited band the Misfits. Lombardo was a founding member of Slayer and is slated to play with the Misfits on their upcoming reunion tour.

“The Misfits created the horror punk attitude and had a massive influence on modern rock, punk and metal,” Lombardo said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. "It was an easy decision for me to join them for these monumental shows. I was honored to be asked, and am very excited to be playing with the band.”

The Misfits have been around since 1977 and were founded by singer Glen Danzig and bassist Jerry Only. Danzig went on to have a monumental career as a solo artist, and Only then reinstated the Misfits in 1995 as lead vocalist. For the upcoming tour, Danzig, Only and their longstanding guitarist Doyle Wolfgang will be playing together again.

For the reunion tour the band is promoting themselves as “The Original Misfits” and are slated to perform at Riot Fest & Rodeo in Denver, Colorado on September 2-4 as well as Riot Fest & Carnival in Chicago on September 16-18. Thus far there are no other live dates scheduled.

Danzig further said to Rolling Stone, “I first met Dave back in 1988 when Danzig did four shows with Slayer in the U.S., before the first Danzig album was released. Dave is one of the best drummers around, and I can’t wait for everyone to see him pounding Misfits songs live for those special shows.”

In the past, Danzig has also suggested that the band might be done up in their infamous skull make-up again after 35 years without it.
